My Holiday Card Shop
There's one more card still to come, but I didn't want to delay opening the shop any longer. It seemed especially important to do it today since, this morning, I woke up to the first snow of the season.
Seriously, my heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who helped me either through critique or words of encouragement. You Ochibau push me to be better and to want more from myself.
just so no one thinks i have up and died or somesuch nonsense, seeing as i really did just kinda poof and vanish.
been having issues with chronic neck pain, which makes it nigh impossible to sleep, which makes me less likely to do anything but state mindlessly at the pretty computer screen when i used to do thinks like chat and write in a lively fashion. i am just rather bloody tired.
been through a bunch of doctors appointments, the most recent of which was this morning, and was full of x-rays and prescription narcotics. i am most likely going to be a bit scarce for a bit longer. i do respond to emails and shoutouts/alerts, but i am not around much for the mundane hanging out i do so love.
miss you all, hope to be back regularly soon.
(Just because I've thought a lot about it and I'd like to write it down/share it somewhere; it's the PoliSci student in me. XD)
Concerning the presidential race...
In my mind, I dared this country to vote for McCain. I kind of said to myself, "Well, I don't care what happens, I voted, and we have a chance for a change, but if people want to suffer, especially the middle class, go right ahead and go for the McCain ticket...". After all, we've experienced four years of Bush which equaled loss of jobs (my dad was laid off and money was very, very tight for three years), loss of the surplus, and a war that everyone in the country is paying for but feels less than confident about.
I was wrong though, and people voted for a change. A lot of those people were, of course, Republicans who had to overlook their social conservative ways and vote for Obama; that takes a lot of convincing. But some people still had their feet stuck in the mud and voted for McCain, which I don't necessarily have a problem with. (My boyfriend is one of the most conservative Republicans you will ever meet; we often get into it, including a conversation we had today. He said we're in for four years of shitty government. We agree to disagree. :D)
But, I think, although I don't think McCain is the devil-reincarnate, that no one can deny that McCain ran an ugly, ugly race. Both sides slung mud, no doubt, but McCain's anger and lying obviously changed minds about him. Calling Obama everything from a socialist to "that one". There was a certain anger and total lack of respect that McCain had toward Obama that really annoyed people. McCain's rallies, especially the ones led by Palin, were disturbing compared to Obama's. I know you can't control what people say at your rallies, but people were yelling "Hang Obama!" and what not; can't you quickly quell comments like that? McCain had no problem hushing the booing at his concession speech.
And McCain's choice of Palin...oh dear. I think McCain committed political suicide with that one. Palin as VP candidate only 1) solidified the Republican base that will vote Republican no matter what. 2) Insulted all women by suggesting that she was as educated and qualified as Clinton. 3) Ruined McCain's campaign financially and organizationally. By the last few weeks of the election, McCain's aids were pointing fingers, releasing statements to the Associated Press complaining that Palin's excessive demands were causing strife. For goodness sakes, Palin's make-up artist was the highest paid person on the McCain staff! And people claimed that the media was against her because she was a woman. Well, Republican ripped Clinton apart because she was a woman, no one seemed to have an issue with that.
Then there are the issues. I still think it's the economy that really helped Obama. People are realizing that fixing the economy is more important that worrying if someone is gay in the military or not XD. I mean, I understand that people have certain social beliefs, but I don't understand why some people need to be so heavily concerned with what other people do in their private life, especially if they aren't hurting anyone. If I want to worship chickens that's none of your business. I heard a lady today say that's she's worried about her children now that Obama's won and the country will go to social ruin. Seriously people, social ruin? Look at the way Muslims have been perceived since Bush became the president. >_>
Concerning other issues...
Though Obama is president-elect, the Democrats only have a slight majority in Congress. The senate majority, though the numbers for four elections are still pending as far as I know, is not going to be filibuster-proof. Congressional elections did not become a blood-bath like people thought, so I don't think the Republican voice will totally be droned out, which is a good thing.
Besides that, there are those infamous laws that were voted on: Prop 8 in California, Amendment 2 in Florida...other bills that seek to ban gay marriage. This is something that gets me extreme riled up, especially since I have gay friend who'd like to be married someday. I don't know *why* some people have to be so concerned with other people's personal business. As a straight person, is gay marriage going to hurt you? Are you going to die? I just want to shake some people and say "Not everyone is a Christian like you!" Surprisingly, it's been announced that Prop 8 has passed in California, but what most don't know is that the game is not over yet. Law suits are being filed, and millions of absentee ballots have not been counted yet.
I think gay issues are next up on America's plate dealing with civil rights. Everything comes in stages in this country: first, people had to get over other being different religions, women had to recieve their rights, then minorities, now I think it's time for LBGT community, though it will take time.
You know this whole gay marriage thing reminds me of the anti-miscegenation laws that used to be in this country. Different races couldn't marry each other. If those laws weren't struck down, I can't imagine where this country would be. I can't imagine where I'd be, I mean my boyfriend is white. Our relationship would've been illegal. @_@
Yeah, I'm done ranting now.
THAT DAY IS NOT TODAY. So, because she and Questy peer-pressured me into doing this:
What's the last thing you wrote?
GokuTsuna for the KHR mini-bang challenge.
Was it any good?
Uh, well it's the first draft. So not particularly.
What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
Hahahaha, a teeny-tiny book written and illustrated on green construction paper. I did it when I was, like, three.
Write poetry?
ONCE UPON A TIME.
Angsty poetry?
...That's a secret.
Most fun character you ever wrote?
Gokudera-kun~~~ bad-ass to raving fanboy in 3.5. seconds? EPIC. He's so much fun to write. I'm also partial to Doumeki of xxxHolic, but I haven't written him much.
Most annoying character you ever wrote?
RIKU. I. Just. Cannot. Characterize. Him. No one's ever given me so much trouble. I just have a huge block on writing him for some reason, and try as I might to find 'my' Riku, I just can't.
Best plot you ever wrote?
Ah...I'd say a toss up between Persephone!Demyx and Millefiore!Gokudera.
Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
PERSEPHONE!DEMYX, TTLY. I mean, I wasn't exactly subtle about it or anything, but just the thought of Zexion abducting him to the darkest reaches of the underworld only to find out that lol he's a guy makes me laugh.
How often do you get writer's block?
Every so often. Maybe a few times a year, lasting for a few weeks.
How do you fix it?
By writing anyway. It turns out crappy for the most part, but it helps.
Do you type or write by hand?
TYPE. I have such a hard time writing by hand. The pencil just won't go fast enough, and I'm OCD about writing so I hate scratching things out. I don't know what I'd do without a word processing document.
Do you save everything you write?
Just about, yeah. Even if I don't like it at the time, it might give me inspiration later, or I can use it in a completely different fic.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
I don't much like abandoning things I write. Even if I declare it total trash at the time, sometimes I'll take the premise of it and incorporate it in other stories.
What's your favorite thing that you've written?
Toss up between dead!Zexion, Persephone!Demyx, and roommates!Bonten+Toki.
What's everyone else's favorite thing that you've written?
Probably SGW, haha. Which used to be my least favorite until I went and edited the whole thing.
Do you ever show people your work?
All the time T_T
Who's your favorite constructive critic?
nyu_sama. The girl wrote six pages of concrit for And I Will Pledge With Mine; and it was just ksdjf;sdlfj fantastic. I wanted to cry out of happiness afterward, because reading her crit made me remember what I wanted to do with the story when I first began it, and when I get around to revising it, I hope to turn it into something as good as it could have been.
Did you ever write a novel?
No...BUT I SHALL.
Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
Yup! All three, actually.
Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
Most of my fic is romance, ehehe. But original stuff? Nah.
What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
Western.
How many writing projects are you working on right now?
Oh gosh. Uh. Nine.
Do you want to write for a living?
YEEESSSSSSSSS <3333333
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
Yup.
Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Yeah, ehehe.
Ever written something in script or play format?
Yup. I took a screenwriting class my freshman year of college.
What is your favorite word?
Aesthetic <3 and frenetic.
Do you ever write based on yourself?
...I WAS TWELVE, OKAY?
Which of your characters most resembles you?
Haru, hahaha. I'm a tiny bit more gung-ho about things, but we're actually pretty similar.
Where do you get ideas for your characters?
Well, in fanfic the characters are already there. My own oc's, though? Um...I almost always start by sketching a person. Then I'll give them traits; this one collects chopsticks, that one practices bonsai, this one lives on hamburgers. The characters just kind of create themselves.
Do you ever write based on your dreams?
Not really, haha. I do write my dreams down sometimes, though, because I have freaky dreams and a few of them would make cool stories.
Do you prefer happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
HAPPY ENDINGS OMG.
Have you ever written anything based on an artwork you've seen?
I want to say yes, but I can't remember if I ever actually have. So maybe.
Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
YES. Gah, I can't bear reading things that don't have at least decent spelling and grammar. A few mistakes are fine, because it's hard catching every single one, but there's a limit. It just feels lazy otherwise, and why would anyone want to read lazily-written stories?
Ever write something entirely in chatspeak?
No. BUT IT WOULD PROBABLY BE COOL. I used to think it couldn't be done well, but then I read one of shuukyou's stories on Shousetsu Bang*Bang. It was done as an AIM log and half in chatspeak, and it was absolutely fantastic. So I might try one day.
Does music help you write?
Mmm, I have to read music before I write to get in a certain mood, but I can't concentrate if I'm listening to music while writing.
Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
Ehehe, not really? I'm like Naruto, haha: I've been telling everyone I want to be a writer since I was a kid, and I totally will. BELIEVE IT.
Quote something you've written.
Your first thought is: I just came in the middle of a crowded dance club.
Your second is: Charles is never going to let me hear the end of this if he finds out.
"Don't tell Charles," you mumble.
You have about three seconds to regret the words before his eyes darken even further and he presses your hips against his. Then another two before you realize that he's still hard against your stomach.
"Oh," you yelp.
"I just about gave you a screaming orgasm in the middle of a gay dance club, and you're thinking about Charles?" he says.
You blink at him. Then blink down at the cock bulging the front of his jeans. Then grin sheepishly back up at him.
"Uh. You want a blowjob?"
