My Ochi-versarry!

Nov 16, 2008, 5:56 am

Mood:

On Thursday it was my one year Ochi birthday. A year ago Ochi found one of my posted stories on a competition site and invited me on here and for the first few months I HAD NO CLUE WHAT THE HELL I WAS DOING! I didn't know what uke meant, or RL, or brb, or LOL. I was SUCH a spaz! And I had only been writing for six months so I HAD NO CLUE about that either.

So I wanted to thank all of you guys for your patience as I asked about a million really stupid questions and for all the reviews and all the corrupting influence. I've written things I would never have written, read things I would never have read, seen beautiful art I would never have seen, if it wasn't for being on this site.

And I have laughed, and laughed, and laughed!

Help! Book question!

Sep 27, 2008, 3:17 pm

Mood: Snotty and Confused

Has anyone read The Book With No Name by Anon?

If so, I reckon that I understood the ending except for one thing. The Bourbon Kid who is Taos' immortal son (and crazy to boot) turns up at the end on the Hubal monks' island. Are we supposed to assume that he kills Taos? If so what about that bit when he was talking to Somers/Xavier about wanting a place to die? Or has the kid's urge to die changed since Somers bit him? Is the kid a vampire now? And consequently the new dark lord?

I really hope someone can help me with this because it's driving me nuts.

Note to self-- never finish a good book while suffering from a head cold.

I've been having a worrit!

I recently started back to work after a long illness and I'm finding that I'm too exhausted to even read in the evenings and I just kind of collapse at weekends. I am still writing but only through dogged determination of will.

A lot of my friends have given up on all their dreams over the last few years. They have less and less time for anything but work and paying mortgages.

Is it inevitable? Do any of you guys know of (or are) adults who continue their creative life after 25? Or does real life just crush it, sooner or later?

Thank God for Ochiba!

Blimey...that was a stressful afternoon!

I went onto my word documents and found that about five chapters and two whole one shots had vanished from my hard drive. I might have accidentally deleted them myself but if it weren't for the fact that I posted them on Ochiba I WOULD HAVE LOST THEM FOREVER!

And you would have been able to hear the screaming throughout the western hemisphere....

And the virus spreads...

Mood: Miserable

What's the last thing you wrote?
Chapter five of Big Trouble in Little Florists. Yohji got a bit of a shock in it.

Was it any good?
I have NO CLUE.

What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
I wrote a 'novel' when I was ten that I genuinely thought would get published. It was fantasy and wildly derivitive of Eddings and Tolkien. I drew maps to accompany it and in it the heroes would always go on a straight line journey from left to right.

Write poetry?
I used to, for years it was the only thing I wrote, but not anymore.

Angsty poetry?
God yes! Like all pubescents/teenagers I wrote some poetry that is now unintentionally hilarious. Oh the earnestness of it, the lack of irony...

Most fun character you ever wrote?
Spike when I was writing a Buffy script for a friend.

Most annoying character you ever wrote?
Probably all my early, breathtakingly pompous heriones.

Best plot you ever wrote?
Meh...

Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
Meh heh...

How often do you get writer's block?
The only reason that I can get past it enough to write (after ten years of not writing) is to not take it seriously. I always do my best but I try not to see it as a matter of life and death. If I'm not careful I can be sooooo melodramatic.

How do you fix it?
By writing comedy. I always love writing comedy.

Do you type or write by hand?
Write by hand. It's quicker.

Do you save everything you write?
Yes but only about 25% ends up on here.

Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
It's more that I will have an idea rattling about in my brain for awhile before writing it down.

What's your favorite thing that you've written?
I don't have favourites.

What's everyone else's favorite thing that you've written?
Fakers, I suspect!

Do you ever show people your work?
You mean real life people? Some of them. And the entire internet is welcome!

Who's your favorite constructive critic?
Ochi actually picked me up on a really bad habit once and it's helped soooo much.

Did you ever write a novel?
I've written two or three. They are in a drawer somewhere.

Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
First two yes, and some of my stories can be bloody.

Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
Lots or romance and lots of angsty everything!

What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
Children's fiction

How many writing projects are you working on right now?
4 or 5

Do you want to write for a living?
I imagine that a lot of joy would go out of it but it would be nice to have a job that isn't a total intellectual insult!

Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
Yes at university, some reviews and interviews

Have you ever won an award for your writing?
A short story competition and second place in a playwriting competition.

Ever written something in script or play format?
Lots! A 1920's farce, one Buffy script and two Torchwood scripts.

What is your favorite word?
Beguiled.

Do you ever write based on yourself?
I tend to use my own experiences rather than my own personality. Sasuke's experience of the job centre (minus the lovely Naruto) is lifted almost wholesale from how I was treated there. And Chosen is based on my own theatre experience (I always got cast as sluts and no one would tell me why).

Which of your characters most resembles you?
Crowley for his sense of guilt and inadequacy and extreme sarcasm.

Where do you get ideas for your characters?
They fall into my head at inconvenient times such as on the bus or walking up a hill.

Do you ever write based on your dreams?
No, they are too wierd.

Do you prefer happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
I'm a sucker for a happy ending.

Have you ever written anything based on an artwork you've seen?
Sometimes

Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Sadly, as people have probably noticed, no!

Ever write something entirely in chatspeak?
Only text messages.

Does music help you write?
I used to use music to distract myself from the fact that I was writing so that I wouldn't panic and stop. Now I write in silence but I type up to music.

Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
People have been saying that I should write since I can remember.

Quote something you've written.
"The hamster caught fire and shot back up Naruto's spine." If in doubt, rodents are the way to go.
